KIENI FIGHTERS OF HIV/AIDS
Located in the Kieni area of Nyeri County, Kenya, Kieni Fighters was founded in 2007 to fight the stigma surrounding people living with HIV/AIDS and provide them with medical resources. From 2009 - 2016, KIDS helped provide medical supplies, food, blankets, and spirulina to over 60 families at a time.
Beginning in 2019, the Kieni Fighters partnered with KIDS Initiative to develop a Resource Centre to reduce the rate of HIV/AIDS infection and increase health-care access for individuals with HIV/AIDS in Kieni by targeting the underlying drivers of HIV risk and vulnerability for women and girls in Kenya. The Resource Centre is a combination prevention program that holistically addresses the behavioral, biomedical, and structural risks of HIV/AIDS infection for women and girls in Kieni. During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, the program successfully pivoted towards providing online resources through a Facebook page, while also supporting Centre staff in traveling to communities to provide workshops and resources in person.
The Kieni Fighters Resource Centre helps to address the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal of Quality Education (#4) through providing access to health education and workshops aimed at developing employment skills for women and girls at risk of HIV/AIDS.
