BANITA IDP CAMP
The Banita Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp is located in the Subukia area of Nakuru County. When KIDS began our relationship with the community, it was separate from the neighboring Gitumba IDP Camp, but they have since merged to form a community of approximately 1,086, with an average of 6 people per household.
Between 2009 - 2014, KIDS secured water piping materials and organized labor to install the piping, allowing the community to access clean water. Within one year, the community had access to education, housing, and crops for a sustainable feeding community, which provided food for both the local school and surrounding area.
Through these projects, KIDS has helped the Banita IDP Camp work towards achieving 2 of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals: #2 Zero Hunger and #6 Clean Water and Sanitation.
